Alberta Association for Community Living says barriers remain despite recommendations to improve Persons with Developmental

However AACL notes that despite this progress many Albertans remain vulnerable. "While AACL applauds the minister's commitment to increasing support and flexibility for families with sons and daughters with developmental disabilities we remain deeply concerned about those individuals who require support but who don't qualify for the PDD program," said Barb MacIntyre, President of AACL and the mother of a son with developmental disabilities. AACL commends the ministry's commitment to achieving the best possible outcomes for individuals and to improving supports to Family Managed Services. Improving availability and resources to Family Managed Supports is an action families appreciate and will benefit from. AACL is pleased to be a partner with Calgary PDD in operating the first Family Managed Resource Centre in Alberta, and hopes to see similar initiatives across the province in the wake of today's announcement.
